Nikki Giovanni’s words are the guiding principle for my vision of the potential of what education should represent.

When we require ourselves to take the bounds off what we imagine education to be, we take the limits off who we believe ALL students can be and what we believe about their ability. In removing the boundaries of what dominant culture has taught us that students, specifically marginalized students can do, we institute practices that better reflect an equitable education system.

Understanding the historical underpinnings of the education system motivates us to work on behalf of the students who are intentionally and unintentionally left out.

Background

Liaison Educational Partners is founded and led by Tanji P. Reed Marshall, Ph.D.

Dr. Marshall earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with specializations in English Education and Critical Literacy from Virginia Tech.

Dr. Marshall has more than 20 years in education, including classroom teaching experience, coaching/supporting teachers and leaders at a district level through many avenues, and supporting educational organizations.

Most recently, Dr. Marshall served as the Director of P12 practice with the Education Trust in Washington, DC. Her experience in education has created space for her voice to be heard on issues across the nation as a sought after keynote speaker and facilitator, panelist, national and international conference presenter, a thought partner to districts, schools and educational organizations, a co-host of an education equity podcast, and an author; with published articles in magazines and journals, and book chapters.

With a background spanning DEI practice, program management, consultancy, and infrastructure enhancement, Aerin is dedicated to cultivating inclusive teams and fostering equitable, human-centered workplaces. Her approach is guided by the belief that equity and inclusion are foundational to realizing an organization’s mission, vision, and values.

Aerin excels in developing content, designing training programs, facilitating discussions, and employing systems thinking to enhance organizational effectiveness. Her expertise extends to people management and operational leadership, aiming to collaborate with teams that prioritize the integration of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

What does Liaison Educational Partners do?

LEP directly supports state departments of education,  school districts, and individual schools to ensure highly effective teachers educate students, their leaders are supported, and they learn using curricula that authentically represent them.

We also partner with education-facing organizations supporting their efforts to develop culturally responsive, representationally-balanced curricula and ensuring alignment between their mission, vision, values, and practices so that their approach to supporting the education profession centers students.

Our work with state departments of education such as the Delaware Department of Education has allowed them to engage in the deep work of examining their principles, policies, and practices.

We also work at the individual district and school level like with past clients the Boston Public Schools, High School of Commerce in Massachusetts, and the Forrest City School District to improve educator performance leading to improved student outcomes.

Finally, our work with education-supporting organizations such as Benchmark and Scholastic Education Solutions allows us to be sought-after thought partners shaping national curricula, organizational equity strategy, and development, as well as leader and educator development.
