COVID-19 showed many imbalances America still struggles with.
In an article I wrote for BET, I focus on the glaring inequalities in our education system. I delve into how the shift to remote learning has exacerbated disparities in access to technology, quality instruction, and other critical resources – particularly for students from low-income communities and communities of color.
Some key insights from the article include:
- The digital divide that leaves many students without reliable internet or devices necessary for virtual learning
- Challenges faced by teachers in providing engaging, high-quality instruction remotely
- The widening achievement gap as some students fall further behind their more advantaged peers
I argue that the pandemic has shone a harsh light on systemic inequities that have plagued the US education system for decades.
Now more than ever, there is a critical need to address these disparities and ensure all students have the support they need to succeed.
I encourage you to read the full article to gain a deeper understanding of where we are and the work we all must do to create better learning environments for our students.
